LUCKY ALI After launching melodious album like Sunoh, Sifar and Aks, musical maestro Lucky Ali is back with his new album Xsuie. Upbeat about his new album, this singeractor talks to SHWETANK DUBEY about the unique unconventional experiment that he has undertaken to bring music to the doorstep of his fans You took a long sabbatical before deciding to launch a new album. What have you been doing all these years?
Yes. It has been five years since my last album was released. I have launched one song of my latest album Xsuie. I was just exploring my talents in various forms of music as I wanted to take out an album from the core of my heart. I would like to say that music is not my profession. I only do things when I want and in the manner I want. I create music for self satisfaction. And if my fans like it, it is an added happiness for me.

At present, you have only released one song, Dil Gaaye Jaa. How many songs have you planned for this album?
I have not yet decided how many songs will be created. It will be a six month exercise when the entire compilation will be made. As soon as a song is made, it will be put online for listeners to savour.

What are the genres that your are exploring for this album?
That is something difficult to answer. I believe that as artists we must not limit ourselves to one fixed genre. I create music with whatever appeals to me. The songs that I would be releasing for this album would be more `Earth-oriented’.

You decided to use the unconvention al method of launching an album on the Internet. What made you take this decision?
I want the audience to appreciate my music. I put it on the Internet so that people can first listen to it; if they like it, then they’ll buy it. I did not want my album to be sold in stores, I would rather have the songs delivered to listeners’ homes. Moreover, the internet sets me free to express myself.

In the Western countries, bands time and again launch singles on CDs, instead of an entire album. Has you also tried to borrow this concept?
In India, it is very difficult to release singles on CDs. No record company is game enough to try this. Due to this, I did not even bother to approach any music company. It’s not that I’m against any record companies for not entertaining my request. All companies are there to make money, and if they feel that it is not a profit making proposition, they will definitely try not to do it.

How many videos are you planning for this album?
I’m thinking of making at least four videos. Generally, artists make only one or two videos for an album. But I want to explore different concepts for the songs that I will create.

Talking about videos, there is also news that you are going to make a `horrorcomedy’ clip featuring one of your fans.
Could you explain what this is all about?
Yes, it is true that I’m planning a horrorcomedy clip. Actually, the video will be made on the song called Main Kya Karoon. The video concept has been heavily inspired by one of my father’s films, Bhoot Bangla. The song is a satire on our daily existence. After a certain point of time, we all realise that we start behaving like robots given the fast pace of life. The song and the videos will depict just that.

Any new films on the cards?
Not really. In the recent past I’ve had no good offers and the ones that have come my way did not have enough punch in them to lure me. I will only do those films through which I can express myself.

Now that you have started launching songs on the Internet, will you also be launching you own website featuring your songs?
I feel that if I launch my own site, all the traffic will be diverted there and it will become too much for me to handle. I prefer using social networking sites instead.

What have you been doing in the past five years?
Mainly domestic stuff. I am also inclined as an agriculturist, so I have been trying my hand in farming and dairy. But all that it not for a commercial purpose. But it’s not that I’ve been neglecting my career. I am deep within a commercial system so I have to cater to it too.
